New York- I’m happy to share that my work in Mali for the CTC Sentinel was cited by the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs in Oslo. The paper entitled Mali: A Political Economy Analysis examines the historical roots of this vast west African nation-state’s cyclical bouts of instability.
Mali has been in near constant crisis since early 2012 which sadly shows virtually no signs of letting up. The country is now ruled by an anti-democratic junta that is allied with its fellow military rulers in Niger and Burkina Faso to form the Alliance of Sahel States. The name sounds innocuous enough as if to ordain some kind of legitimacy on these regimes despite all three having forcefully overthrown civilian governments.
