Fabled City Episode 3 Is Now Live

Beirut- I’ve got my very short Athens excursion up on my still new-ish Fabled City channel embedded above. I had a very short layover in the Hellenic capital the other week between Barcelona and Larnaca the other week and spontaneously raced into the city centre to see if I could experience a bit of the ancient world rather than sit in the airport scrolling through social media about the so-called ‘culture wars’ back home I’m desperate to escape.

This offering is still rough but these types of things never start out perfectly polished as I understand it so I’m putting it out there imperfectly as it is and not worried about such.

I pointedly chose the word Athenian rather than Athens for the title because rather like ‘Roman’ its utterance evokes the glory of its past rather than the chaos and corruption of its present. Its use in writing is more Socrates than souvlaki in the imagination. It is this Athens and its Athenians I tried to revisit after a prolonged absence amidst a vastly mismanaged global health crisis.

At the Acropolis, or Akropoli as transliterated locally, back in 2019 during far happier, healthier times.

These episodes will gradually get longer and better in terms of overall quality as this project progresses. Like anything it takes practice. Constant, often frustrating, trial and error. But through trial comes getting a genuine handle on the creative process. As I make them, it’s helping to consolidate my own ideas of what it is I’m actually hoping to accomplish which was less than perfectly articulated the day I departed NYC. As a side effect of embarking on this, my MacBook is in far better shape. I’ve gotten rid of many giga worth of junk and redundant files to make room for this. I like when engaging in one positive idea, while in the creator into what seems like a time wasting rabbit hole, ends up being overall a net benefit.
